The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has stated that Afghanistan remains exposed to various risks caused by natural disasters and that the organization has increased its efforts to mitigate these threats.
On Wednesday, April 1, UN-Habitat wrote on its X page that Afghanistan has been facing events such as floods, droughts, and earthquakes, and that capacities need to be strengthened to respond to these incidents.
UN-Habitat said it is working closely with local communities to reduce these risks, enhance capacities, and implement programs for effective responses to potential disasters.
Previously, the World Food Programme (WFP) had also announced that sudden floods had disrupted the lives of people in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department of the Taliban’s Ministry of Transport and Aviation has warned of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, and flooding across Afghanistan, except for Badakhshan province.
