The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says refugees did not leave their homes by choice, but were forced to abandon everything in search of safety.

The organization wrote on its X account on Thursday, August 20, that refugees had made the difficult decision to leave their homes and lives behind to reach a safe place.

The agency’s call for empathy toward refugees comes as thousands of refugees from Afghanistan in various countries, particularly neighboring states, face residency and economic difficulties.

In recent months, several countries in the region have also intensified the deportation and return of migrants and refugees from Afghanistan.

Forced returns have raised serious concerns about the living conditions and safety of these individuals after their return to Afghanistan.

Some returnees from Afghanistan have faced economic difficulties, unemployment, and challenges in meeting their basic needs after being deported.
