The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has said that the large-scale return of migrants to Afghanistan has increased pressure on basic services and infrastructure.
In a post on X on Monday, October 26, the agency said that approximately 4.9 million people had returned to Afghanistan between 2023 and 2025.
UNDP added that, through its Economic Recovery Programme, it supports local communities in targeted areas to improve livelihoods and access to basic services.
In recent years, the return of migrants to Afghanistan has created new challenges in securing livelihoods and accessing essential services.
Creating job opportunities and supporting local communities are among the key needs to help returnees and ease pressure on infrastructure.
