The United Nations Security Council will hold a meeting on the situation in Afghanistan on June 8.
UNAMA reported on Monday, June 1, on its Facebook page about important UN events related to Afghanistan in June.
UNAMA said that on June 8, 2026, the United Nations Security Council will hold a meeting to review the situation in Afghanistan and UNAMA’s mandate.
It also added that on June 16, the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) will be extended.
The most recent meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Afghanistan was held on February 7, 2026.
In that meeting, Georgette Gagnon, the Acting Head of UNAMA, said that the policies imposed by the Taliban on the people of Afghanistan, especially in the area of women’s education, are harmful and shocking, and they affect not only women and girls but the entire population.
She described the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan as critical and added that in 2026, due to reduced funding for aid programs, the situation has worsened.
In that meeting, UNAMA’s mandate in Afghanistan was extended for a three-month period.
