Francesca Albanese, the United Nations special rapporteur on Palestine, has called on Mediterranean countries to protect aid ships heading toward Gaza.
Writing on X on Monday, May 18, Albanese said Mediterranean states should protect civilian vessels attempting to break what she described as Israel’s “genocidal blockade” against Gaza.
Albanese also urged governments to end the blockade on Gaza and ensure justice.
Human rights activists traveling toward the Gaza Strip have reported seeing unidentified vessels near their convoy in international waters.
Israel has previously prevented humanitarian aid convoys from entering the Gaza Strip.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached a critical point, as continued attacks, the prolonged blockade, and widespread destruction of infrastructure have pushed the lives of millions of people to the brink of collapse.
