Kabul – The United Nations is transferring some of its aid to the Afghan people in cash, informed sources tell Hasht-e Subh.
By the end of March 2022, the UN will be providing about $20 million in cash to the people of Afghanistan on a weekly basis, a source added.
The money will be transferred to the International Bank of Afghanistan (AIB) and then distributed by the UN in cash or through it to purchase essential goods inside Afghanistan.
According to the source, this method of aid will continue after March.
The purpose of transferring cash to Afghanistan is to circulate dollars in the markets and prevent a liquidity crisis.
Moreover, economists have previously said that this method of aid helps control the value of the dollar and the stability of the national currency.
Earlier, three cash aid packages were delivered to the Central Bank by the Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
Meanwhile, with the cessation of cash aid to Afghanistan and the imposition of restrictions by the United States, the country’s markets are facing a liquidity crisis.
Currently, one US dollar is exchanged in Afghanistan for about 109 afghanis.
In the meantime, the experts had previously said that if the dollar is not injected into Afghan markets, the value of the dollar against the Afghan currency will rise sharply.
