The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has issued a warning regarding environmental degradation and the consequences of climate change in Afghanistan.
On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, the UN-Habitat office posted a message on X, stating that mismanagement of water, waste, and a lack of green spaces are endangering the health of Afghans.
The agency added that Afghanistan is highly vulnerable to environmental degradation and the impacts of climate change.
The organization further noted that contaminated water and air pollution have created an insecure living environment for Afghans.
UN-Habitat stated that the rise in urban heat and the scarcity of green spaces, particularly in informal settlements, have exacerbated the effects of climate change in Afghanistan.
On April 15, 2025, the agency reported that many people in Afghanistan, especially those in informal settlements, lack access to clean drinking water and sanitation services.
