The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), on the occasion of World Day of Social Justice, has emphasized the importance of girls’ education and the broad role of women in decision-making.
In a statement on its Facebook page today, Friday, 20 February, UNAMA wrote that no country can achieve social justice while half of its population is deprived of secondary education.
UNAMA stressed that sustainable peace can only be achieved when women, youth, ethnic groups, and persons with disabilities are included in decision-making.
UNAMA also highlighted that every Afghan has the right to work and earn a living without discrimination and with dignity.
For more than four years, universities and schools have been closed to girls, and women and girls have been systematically excluded from society.
Meanwhile, Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Supreme Leader of the Taliban, has legalized the beating of women by their husbands in a new 60-page criminal law, which directly contradicts the principles of social justice.
