The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that several children returned to Afghanistan have not received any vaccines so far, and this situation will increase the risk of disease outbreaks and threaten the health of people in the country.
The organization reported on Sunday, February 15, 2026, that by providing primary health care services and identifying returned children, it has been able to register children in the “National Immunization System of Afghanistan” and vaccinate them.
According to the report, registering children in the “National Immunization System of Afghanistan” and providing vaccination cards, in addition to protecting children against deadly diseases, gives families better access to health services.
Dr. Edwin Ceniza, WHO Representative in Afghanistan, said: “With active community participation and continued support for health services, we can ensure that no child is left behind in care.”
The World Health Organization has emphasized that reaching unvaccinated children among returnee families is essential to prevent the spread of dangerous diseases such as measles and polio, and to protect the most vulnerable individuals.
