The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged people in Afghanistan to act quickly and follow safety precautions to protect themselves and their families during floods.
In a message posted on X on Tuesday, July 21, the WHO said floods are dangerous but that following a few simple safety measures can help save lives.
The organization stressed that staying away from fast-moving floodwaters and avoiding immediate hazards during flooding can significantly reduce the risk of injury or death.
WHO also advised people to remain inside their vehicles during flood events rather than attempting to leave them in dangerous conditions.
The advisory follows deadly floods that struck Parun, the capital of Nuristan province, on Monday, killing 20 people, injuring 80 others, and leaving 100 people missing.
Recent floods across parts of Afghanistan have caused widespread loss of life and extensive damage to homes and infrastructure.
