Local officials in the US state of Nevada have announced that following the spread of a wildfire in the Hawco area near Reno, about 42,000 people have been evacuated or are in the process of leaving their homes.
Reuters reported on Sunday, August 23, that the wildfire has burned about 13,000 acres, equivalent to 5,261 hectares, of land.
According to the report, another 45,000 people are on standby for evacuation, bringing the total number of people in evacuated or at-risk areas to nearly 90,000.
Officials say the wildfire was human-caused, and an investigation into its cause is ongoing.
The flames have reportedly moved closer to roads, while thick smoke has covered residential areas in northern Reno.
