The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) says environmental pollution has become one of the serious and growing challenges in Afghanistan.
UNAMA said on Sunday, September 20, coinciding with World Cleanup Day, that plastic waste plays a significant role in polluting the country’s water, soil and land.
The mission added that preventing waste from being dumped on roads, in alleys and waterways, including the Kabul River, could help protect the environment and reduce pollution.
UNAMA stressed that proper waste management and raising public awareness about the consequences of environmental pollution are important for creating healthier communities and ensuring a more sustainable future.
The mission also called for greater attention to environmental protection and preventing waste from entering waterways and natural environments.
