Several professors at Herat University have resigned from their positions over insulting treatment by the Taliban’s Morality Police in the province and the imprisonment of professors for having short beards.

A document obtained by the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Thursday, August 20, shows that 11 professors from the Faculty of Medicine at Herat University announced their resignations in an official letter.

In the letter, the professors specifically cited the insulting treatment by the Taliban’s Morality Police as the reason for their resignations.

This comes as the Taliban’s Morality Police had previously detained several United Nations staff members in Herat for having short beards.

Meanwhile, several students at Sheikh Zayed University in Khost had also been expelled from the university’s dormitory for not having beards.

The Herat University professors have resigned from their positions as Taliban restrictions on the appearance and clothing of employees and citizens of the country, particularly women, have increased in recent years.
