Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, has said that Iran has presented the United States with a seven-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Reuters reported early Saturday, Sept. 26, that Araghchi made the remarks while speaking to reporters in New York.
According to the report, Araghchi said that following Iran’s presentation of the seven-day plan, the choice now rests with the United States.
He said: “If the necessary conditions are met, the strait can be reopened and normal maritime passage can be restored within seven days. The choice is now with the United States.”
Referring to a memorandum of understanding signed by Iran and the United States in June, he said the measures Washington needs to take are not new.
Meanwhile, Iranian and U.S. delegations have held meetings on the sidelines of the United Nations in recent days, mediated by Qatar.
