Sibghatullah Arghand, brother of slain journalist Abdul Manan Arghand, says the Taliban municipality removed a road sign bearing his brother’s name during the night and took it away.
Sibghatullah Arghand said on Sunday, October 4, that the road had been named “Martyr Abdul Manan Arghand Watt” by the previous government.
According to him, after the road was renovated, he had installed a sign bearing his brother’s name again the previous day. However, Taliban municipal officials went to the site in a vehicle last night and removed the sign.
Arghand said that if installing the sign violated regulations, the municipality could have contacted him.
Abdul Manan Arghand was killed in an armed attack in Kandahar on April 25, 2018.
At the time, the killing of the journalist was attributed to the Taliban.
Following his death, local Kandahar authorities named a road in the city after Abdul Manan Arghand.
