The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that more than 1.5 billion barrels of crude oil have been shipped through the Strait of Hormuz since the summer, with more than 95 percent of vessels passing safely through the waterway.
In a statement posted on X late Sunday, October 25, CENTCOM said its commander, Brad Cooper, had visited the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the statement, more than 3,000 commercial vessels have successfully transited the strait over the past six months with support from CENTCOM forces.
The US military also said that all naval mines laid by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz had been cleared.
“Today, thanks to the extraordinary efforts of our forces, the main transit routes through the Strait of Hormuz are open and free of Iranian naval mines,” Cooper said.
CENTCOM said that despite what it described as “hostile and unjustified actions by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,” more than 95 percent of vessels that have crossed the strait in recent months have passed through the waterway safely.
CENTCOM further claimed that the successful passage of this number of vessels demonstrates US control over the strategic waterway.
