Kabul – The foreign minister of China, Wang Yi, has expressed concern regarding the increase of poverty and hunger in Afghanistan and has called on the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to cooperate with the country.
Wang Yi proposed the issue in his trip to Greece on Wednesday, (October 27), Reuters news agency reported.
The foreign minister of China has called on World Bank and IMF to resume their financial cooperation as cash for the construction of Afghanistan, according to the report.
Meanwhile, he had earlier said at the summit of neighboring countries of Afghanistan in Tehran that the country needs cooperation in all sections.
Chinese foreign minister had called on the US and other countries to cancel unilateral sanctions against Afghanistan. Likewise, he had demanded from the World Health Organization (WHO) to provide and cooperate vaccination and medical supplies to Afghanistan in order to fight against Covid 19.
Wang Yi also promised $30 million of China’s humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
In the meantime, the Central Bank’s currency assets which cost $9.4 million have been frozen by the US since the collapse of the former government, and the United States Department of the Treasury has stated that it would not allow the Taliban to have access to it.
However, since the Taliban took over in Kabul, many citizens have lost their job, and the majority of Afghans suffer due to poverty and hunger.
Earlier, the aid agencies had warned of the severe economic situation in the country and had immediately called humanitarian assistance on the international community.
