Local sources report that a civil society activist was severely tortured by the Taliban’s intelligence agency in Khost.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on August 11 that the civil society activist was named Ehsan Sadat and had close ties with the “Pashtun Protection Movement.”
According to the sources, Ehsan Sadat was arrested four days ago by Taliban intelligence fighters in Khost province and was severely tortured.
The sources confirmed that the young man fell into a coma following severe torture by Taliban fighters, and that his physical condition remains critical.
Sadat’s family members have also confirmed his arrest, but the reason for his detention by the Taliban remains unclear.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the matter. However, the group has previously arrested and tortured dozens of people in various provinces of Afghanistan on charges of supporting groups opposed to the Taliban.
