The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Afghanistan has announced that thousands of families have been forced to flee their homes and are left without shelter following ongoing clashes in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces.
In a post on X on Thursday, March 5, the committee stated that its teams, alongside the Taliban-controlled Red Crescent Society, are present in the affected areas and are currently assessing the urgent needs of displaced families.
The ICRC said that these teams are also preparing an emergency response to support families who have been forced to leave their homes as a result of the fighting.
According to the committee’s report, some of these families are living in tents, while others are spending their days and nights under trees or in the open due to a lack of adequate shelter.
Families displaced by the conflict between Pakistan and the Taliban have said they are facing serious humanitarian hardships, and many of them have not yet received any immediate assistance.
Meanwhile, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has also announced that the military conflict between the Taliban and Pakistan has displaced more than 66,000 people in the border provinces.
