Iran and Oman have discussed establishing a temporary shipping route and implementing a joint mine-clearing plan in the Strait of Hormuz.
Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday, August 25, that Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi discussed the establishment of the temporary route and the clearance of mines in the Strait of Hormuz during a meeting in Tehran.
According to the report, both sides emphasized reaching agreements that respect the sovereignty of both countries.
Under the proposed framework, a joint temporary route for ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and a joint project to clear naval mines are being considered.
Iran and Oman are also expected to continue negotiations on establishing a permanent shipping route and how the Strait of Hormuz will be managed in the future.
Both sides emphasized holding joint discussions with the Gulf states to ensure that any potential agreement complies with international law and respects the sovereignty of neighboring countries.
