Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, during a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran, said that Baghdad would not allow Iraqi territory to be used against Iran.
Pezeshkian wrote on his X account on Thursday, July 23, that the two sides discussed bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and regional security during the meeting.
The Iraqi prime minister also said during the meeting that his visit demonstrated the depth of relations between the two countries and described it as a “bridge of friendship between the two nations.”
He emphasized that the security of Iraq and Iran is “intertwined” and pledged that Iraqi territory would not be used to threaten Iran.
The meeting comes amid a recent military confrontation between Iran and the United States and rising tensions in the region, which have increased concerns over the expansion of the war in the Middle East.
