Hamid Karzai, the former President of Afghanistan, has claimed that Pakistan is attempting to secure recognition of the Hypothetical Durand Line through military and economic pressure.
Karzai wrote on his X platform on Saturday, May 9, that Pakistan’s actions constitute a threat to Afghanistan’s “national sovereignty.”
He added, “The aim of these pressures appears to be to force the local people of the region to turn to relevant Pakistani institutions for solutions to security and other issues.”
He noted that as a result of these efforts, documents titled “peace agreements” have been signed between some tribal elders on both sides of the line, which have also been officially confirmed and welcomed by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Karzai stressed, “It is necessary for responsible officials to provide clear explanations to the people regarding these developments.”
These remarks come as, following recent military tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan, tribal residents on both sides of the Hypothetical Durand Line in Kunar and Bajaur held a meeting to call for an end to the clashes.
