Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, has said that her country will never abandon its status as a nuclear power and will not tolerate any threats against it.
North Korea’s state-run news agency, the Korean Central News Agency, reported on Saturday, June 6, that Kim Yo Jong dismissed U.S. claims regarding an alleged agreement between the leaders of the United States and China on North Korea’s denuclearization, calling such assertions “false.”
She said that the policy of continuously strengthening the country’s nuclear deterrent, in accordance with Kim Jong Un’s directives, is a “final and irreversible” decision that must be implemented without exception.
Her remarks come as Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit North Korea on Monday, marking his first trip to the country in nearly seven years.
Meanwhile, Pyongyang recently unveiled a new nuclear materials production facility. Kim Jong Un has also called for a significant expansion of the country’s nuclear arsenal and an increase in missile production capacity.
