The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says more than 500 adolescent girls and boys in Afghanistan have received support to develop technical skills and prepare to enter the labour market.
UNICEF said on Sunday, September 13, on its X page that Tajudeen Oyewale, the organisation’s representative in Afghanistan, said that children and adolescents in Afghanistan deserve support.
The organisation added that the programme was implemented with the support of the World Bank Group, and that the adolescents received the technical skills needed for employment during the programme.
UNICEF said these adolescents are expected to enter the labour market in 2026.
The United Nations Children’s Fund has repeatedly stressed that supporting education and skills training for adolescents can provide them with greater employment opportunities and a better future.
