The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says heavy rainfall and flash floods in several provinces of Afghanistan have caused casualties and widespread damage.
In a report published on July 29, OCHA said the provinces of Ghazni, Kapisa, Laghman, Logar, Nangarhar, Paktia, Paktika, and Parwan were among the areas most affected by the floods.
According to OCHA, Nuristan province has suffered the greatest impact from the recent natural disasters.
The report said that in Parun, the capital of Nuristan, 120 families have been identified as eligible for humanitarian assistance, with aid already provided to 92 of those families.
OCHA added that floods in Laghman province killed three people, injured four others, and affected 187 families.
The report also stated that 183 houses were either completely or partially destroyed or damaged. In addition, around 800 jeribs of agricultural land and nearly 310 livestock were lost or affected.
OCHA warned that floods and landslides may have displaced landmines and unexploded ordnance left from years of conflict, increasing the risk of explosions and casualties among residents of affected areas and humanitarian workers.
