Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran’s president, has said that Tehran agreed to the recent memorandum with the United States to test Washington’s commitment to respecting Iran’s rights and interests in practice.
In a post on X on Monday, June 15, Pezeshkian said that following intensive discussions, nearly all members of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly supported the text of the memorandum.
He added that the purpose of accepting the agreement was to assess the United States’ genuine willingness to respect the rights of the Iranian people.
Pezeshkian also said that Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, played an important role in including provisions aimed at safeguarding Iran’s national interests in the document.
He described the memorandum as the result of months of negotiations and sustained efforts, emphasizing that the agreement represents an important step toward ending the conflict and initiating talks.
The Iranian president added that Tehran remains prepared for all scenarios and that, if all provisions of the memorandum are implemented, the document could be regarded as a significant achievement for Iran.
Iran and the United States recently announced that they had reached an understanding aimed at ending hostilities and launching a negotiation process, an agreement that has drawn widespread regional and international reactions.
