The “Polio-Free Afghanistan” initiative has warned that all travelers crossing the borders with Pakistan and Iran must be vaccinated.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 23, the organization said that travelers of all ages are required to receive the polio vaccine when entering or leaving the country at border points.
The organization had previously warned that children returning from Pakistan must be vaccinated against polio at border crossings.
According to reports, the number of positive polio cases in Pakistan has increased this year.
Meanwhile, two positive polio cases have been recorded this year in Afghanistan’s Badghis and Helmand provinces.
Despite ongoing vaccination campaigns, poliomyelitis, commonly known as polio, has yet to be eradicated from Afghanistan and Pakistan.
