A new polio vaccination campaign begins today across the provinces of Nuristan, Kunar, and Laghman.

The “Polio-Free Afghanistan” initiative announced on Saturday, October 18, that both injectable and oral polio vaccines will be administered to children under the age of five during this campaign.

In Kunar province, the campaign will cover the districts of Asadabad, Watapur, Narang, Sarkani, Marawara, Shigal, Dara-e-Pech, Chawkay, Kuz Kunar, Dangam, Bar Kunar, Ghaziabad, Chapa Dara, Nurgal, and Nari. In Nuristan, it will take place in the districts of Barg-e-Matal, Mandol, Duab, and Kamdish. In Laghman province, vaccination teams will operate in the districts of Alishing, Qarghayi, Alingar, and Dawlat Shah.

A similar campaign was conducted two months ago in the eastern provinces of Afghanistan.

According to the World Health Organization, two positive cases of polio have recently been identified in Badghis and Helmand provinces.
