Polish security officials said that a young Polish student suspected of planning an attack on a Christmas market has been charged with terrorism inspired by ISIS.
Poland’s TVP World reported on Monday, August 31, that the 20-year-old allegedly studied how to make explosives and contacted ISIS while preparing for the attack.
According to the report, Polish security officials alleged that the student, inspired by the terrorist group ISIS, was learning “how to make explosives” with the intention of using them in an attack.
He was reportedly seeking people who could help him carry out his plans and contacted someone to ask how he could obtain the materials needed to make explosives and how to construct a detonation mechanism.
“He intended to use the knowledge he had acquired to carry out an attack during a mass gathering,” Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) said.
However, investigators also alleged that he wanted to join a terrorist organisation linked to ISIS.
