A US official has told Axios that Vice President JD Vance sent a letter to Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stressing that any negotiations must include discussions on the nuclear issue.
Axios reported early Thursday, October 29, that the letter was sent as US President Donald Trump considers resuming large-scale military operations against Iran following the midterm elections.
The US official, who declined to disclose when the letter was sent, said: “The president was very enthusiastic about this letter.”
Meanwhile, Trump told reporters on Wednesday that Vance’s letter was intended to help Iran obtain the medical supplies it needs.
“Essentially, the goal is to deliver supplies to help people who are sick,” he said.
However, disagreements between Washington and Tehran over the terms of negotiations remain a key factor in the ongoing deadlock.
