The body of a former military officer has been found in Helmand province after five months and handed over to his family, sources say.

Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Tuesday, October 13, that the officer had been arrested five months earlier by Taliban intelligence in an area under Police District 1 in Helmand and transferred to an undisclosed location.

According to the sources, the Taliban subsequently denied having arrested the officer.

The sources added that the officer, Allah Dad Badizai, was a former local police commander.

According to the sources, the Taliban’s provincial police command in Helmand handed Allah Dad Badizai’s body over to his family on Monday, October 12.

Meanwhile, human rights violations against former military personnel and officials of Afghanistan’s previous government continue.

Previously, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reported in its quarterly report that it had documented eight killings, 29 cases of arbitrary arrest and detention, and five cases of torture and ill-treatment involving former security force members and officials of the previous government between April 1 and the end of June 2026.
