Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that five years after the Taliban seized power, women and girls in Afghanistan continue to face systematic discrimination and widespread restrictions, while the people of the country are also grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis.
The ministry said on Sunday, August 16, that Spain remains committed to freedom, human rights and human dignity, stressing that diplomatic relations with the Taliban cannot be normalized without respect for human dignity.
Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said that the country stands with the people of Afghanistan, particularly women and girls, and emphasized the importance of upholding their fundamental rights and freedoms.
The remarks come as concerns continue over the intensification of restrictions on women and girls, as well as the deteriorating human rights situation and humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
