Sources in Herat report that the Taliban summoned several vloggers today who had published protest videos in support of women and girls detained in the province.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Wednesday, June 10, that the Taliban warned these individuals that their addresses, personal details, and information about their families are already in the group’s possession.
According to the sources, those summoned were instructed to delete their published videos and to refrain from any further activity or commentary on the matter.
The sources add that these individuals were called to the Taliban’s Directorate of Information and Culture in Herat, where representatives of the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice were also present.
According to them, those attending the meeting were warned that any continuation of similar activities would result in referral to the group’s intelligence service and considerably harsher consequences.
This comes after vloggers in Herat had published protest videos in support of women and girls following their detention by the Taliban for not wearing a chadari/burqa.
Several Herat residents staged a protest gathering in the Jibrail area yesterday in response to these detentions. The demonstration was met with gunfire from Taliban fighters and, according to sources, left two people dead and nearly 30 others wounded.
