Taliban Members Whip Man, Woman Accused of Talking on the Phone in Takhar

Sakhi Khalid Sakhi Khalid
25 November 2022 - ۱۴۰۱/۰۹/۰۴

Taliban members in Takhar whipped a man and a woman accused of talking on the phone.

These two victims were publicly tried on Thursday (November 24th), one day before the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, in Darqad District, Takhar Province.

The man and woman were given 30 lashes each for talking on the phone and having alleged premarital affairs.

The woman, whose name has not been mentioned, is from Maida-Tepa village, Darqad district, and is around 20 years old.

In addition, a young man named Ghullam was also flogged in the extrajudicial court of the Taliban yesterday on the charge of theft.

This is despite the fact that the Taliban have arbitrarily tried 19 people in Takhar and 11 people, including three women, in Logar province in the last two weeks.

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, today (Friday, November 25th), the United Nations and the European Union have called for respect for women’s rights and an end to gender apartheid by the Taliban.
