Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s spokesperson, claimed at a press conference in Kabul that more than 99,000 cancer patients had visited hospitals for treatment over the past year.
The Taliban’s Media and Information Center published a report on Wednesday, September 9, on the spokesperson’s press conference concerning healthcare services, the environment, and sports.
According to the Taliban’s report, the group’s spokesperson claimed that more than 99,000 cancer patients had visited hospitals for treatment and received medical care over the past year.
He also claimed that a 200-bed hospital for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer had begun operating in Kabul during this period.
According to Mujahid’s claim, cancer treatment departments have also become operational at regional hospitals in Balkh, Herat, Nangarhar, and Kandahar.
This comes as thousands of people previously traveled to Pakistan each year for cancer treatment due to the lack of adequate treatment facilities in Afghanistan.
However, the closure of the country’s border amid deteriorating relations with the Taliban has further worsened the difficulties faced by these patients.
