Reports from sources in Paktika province indicate that the Taliban have publicly lashed a man in the region for engaging in illicit relations. The punishment took place on Thursday morning, June 22, in the Matakhan district.
According to local sources, the Taliban gathered dozens of residents from the district to witness the implementation of this sentence. The Taliban Supreme Court mentioned in a newsletter that the punishment of “whipping” had been issued by a provincial court in Paktika.
Prior to this incident, the Taliban had administered whippings to several men and women in the Paktika region for various offenses, primarily for engaging in illicit relationships. Despite receiving both domestic and international reactions, the group has intensified its public punishments since last year.
In the most recent case, the Taliban carried out a public execution by hanging an individual who had murdered five people in Laghman province during the week.
This incident marks the second public execution event since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan.
