Donald Trump, the US president, has rejected reports about a decline in the country’s weapons stockpiles, saying that the US military is not facing a shortage of weapons.
Al Jazeera reported on Thursday, September 3, that Trump described media reports and independent analyses about a decline in US weapons stockpiles as “completely false.”
Trump said that the United States has “almost unlimited quantities” of medium- to high-quality ammunition.
He also rejected reports of shortages of some powerful weapons, including Tomahawk missiles, Patriot missiles and the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system.
The US president added that Washington has also accelerated weapons production and that arms sales to the country’s allies are expected to resume.
The remarks come as several US media outlets have reported in recent weeks on declining stockpiles of some US weapons.
According to these reports, deliveries of some US weapons to its allies, including Switzerland and Japan, were delayed for several months during the US war with Iran.
