Akin Gurlek, Turkey’s Minister of Justice, announced that the country is seeking an Interpol Red Notice for the arrest of Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel.
According to Al Jazeera, on Friday, August 21, the request was made in connection with a legal case concerning the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Gurlek said the case is being investigated by the Istanbul Criminal Court and that 35 people, including Netanyahu, have been named as defendants in the case.
According to him, an arrest warrant for Netanyahu was issued in July, with charges including genocide and crimes against humanity being raised in the case.
This comes as the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu in November 2024 on allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity, accusations that Israel has rejected.
