The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says 70 women in Bamyan Province are learning carpet weaving through a training programme.

The organisation wrote on its X account on Wednesday, October 21, that the programme was launched with support from Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The programme aims to teach women carpet-weaving skills and provide them with opportunities to earn an income so they can support their families.

Women returning from neighbouring countries are also participating in the programme, which helps them acquire carpet-weaving skills to earn an income and provide financial support for their families.

This comes as women and girls in Afghanistan face widespread restrictions on education, employment and participation in social life, while many of them encounter serious difficulties accessing job opportunities and earning an income.
