The United Nations Special Coordinator’s Office for Lebanon (UNSCOL) has warned about the extensive explosions and destruction carried out by the Israeli military in southern Lebanon, describing the situation as “a matter of serious concern.”
In a post on X on Saturday, August 1, UNSCOL said the destruction has raised deep concern because of its devastating impact on civilian infrastructure, cultural heritage, and the collective memory of residents in local communities.
The office added: “Limits must be placed on the escalating pace of destruction, as diplomatic channels remain available to address unresolved issues.”
The remarks come as tensions continue in southern Lebanon, while the United Nations has repeatedly stressed the need to protect civilians and preserve civilian infrastructure and cultural heritage during the ongoing conflict.
