The United Nations has stated that every woman and girl has the right to feel safe everywhere, and that governments must take serious measures to prevent gender-based violence.

The organisation wrote on its X page on Sunday, September 6, that governments must invest in preventing gender-based violence, enforce laws, and end impunity.

The United Nations has stressed that violence against women and girls is preventable and that there is no excuse for it.

These concerns come as women and girls in Afghanistan face widespread restrictions in their daily lives.

Restrictions imposed by the Taliban over the past five years have limited women’s and girls’ access to education and employment, as well as their ability to participate freely in society.

The United Nations and human rights organisations have repeatedly expressed concern over the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan and called for the removal of restrictions that limit their participation in social, economic, and educational spheres.
