Tajudeen Oyewale, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Representative in Afghanistan, says that more than 6.4 million people have returned to Afghanistan from neighboring countries since 2023.
Oyewale wrote on X on Thursday, September 10, that at Omari Camp near the Torkham crossing, he witnessed UNICEF’s continued support for returnees, including children.
According to him, UNICEF provides essential services to returnees and pays particular attention to supporting children.
Oyewale added that the return of more than 6.4 million Afghans has placed additional pressure on basic services in Afghanistan, which were already facing limitations and resource shortages.
The return of Afghans from neighboring countries has increased in recent months, with a large number of returnees entering Afghanistan through the Torkham, Islam Qala, and Spin Boldak border crossings.
