Xi Jinping, the President of China, emphasizing the importance of energy security, has called for accelerating the planning and development of a new energy system so that the country can remain resilient in the face of global energy crises.
China’s state broadcaster CCTV reported on Monday, April 6, that during a meeting on energy developments, Xi Jinping said China should continue developing wind and solar energy, while also maintaining the role of coal as a supporting pillar of the energy system.
The President of China also emphasized the development of hydropower plants, environmental protection, and the safe expansion of nuclear energy.
He said that building a new energy system that is greener, more diversified, and more resilient would provide a strong guarantee for the country’s energy security and economic development.
This comes as China has begun construction of the world’s largest hydroelectric dam on the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, and work on a solar thermal power plant at an altitude of 4,550 meters in Tibet also started on Monday.
