According to local sources in Parwan province, the Taliban have been publicly humiliating and punishing several youths in the Bagram district for trimming and shortening their beards.
On Thursday, 22 June, residents of Bagram district have sent consistent messages to Hasht-e Subh, stating that the Taliban’s virtue promotion and vice prevention personnel have been patrolling the district’s roads for the past month, taking action against individuals who have violated their rules.
One resident from Bagram district said, “The Taliban’s virtue enforcement personnel have been punishing young people on the roads for the past month, questioning why they have trimmed or shaved their beards.”
The source added, “As a result of these issues, the youth in Bagram district are either migrating or discreetly moving around in the Bagram market.”
The Taliban have not yet commented on the matter.
The Taliban’s restrictions on the social lives of people, including the closure of schools and universities for girls beyond the sixth grade, have consistently received criticism from international institutions. However, these criticisms have not led to any changes in the group’s policies.
Previously, the Taliban had also subjected young people in various provinces of the country to humiliation and punishment for trimming or shaving their beards and hair.
