United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres says the proper and widespread use of artificial intelligence (AI) could make the technology a major force for equality in the 21st century.
Guterres wrote on X on Tuesday, July 7, that warnings about the risks of AI are real, but its capabilities and opportunities are equally real.
He added that, if managed properly, AI can create new opportunities and help reduce inequalities around the world.
The UN Secretary-General stressed that the world’s choice is not between trusting AI and fearing it, but between managing the technology responsibly and allowing it to develop without a clear plan.
Guterres called for the responsible use of AI and emphasized the importance of establishing appropriate frameworks to guide the development and use of this technology.
