Local sources in Balkh Province report that following Monday night’s earthquake and subsequent landslides, the Kabul–Mazar-e-Sharif highway has been blocked in the Tashqurghan Gorge.

Sources told Hasht-e Subh Daily on Sunday night, November 3, that rock and soil slides caused by the earthquake completely closed the route, temporarily halting the movement of vehicles.

Taliban officials at the Balkh Directorate of Public Works said that technical teams and heavy machinery have been dispatched to the site, and efforts are underway to clear debris and reopen the highway.

The 6.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Balkh Province on Monday night has also caused casualties and damage in several areas.
