Antonio Costa, president of the European Council, has stressed the importance of freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz during a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Costa wrote on X early Thursday, September 24, that he had urged Iran to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
He said he called for an end to Iran’s attacks on its neighbors and stressed that dialogue is the only way to resolve conflicts and ensure lasting peace across the region.
The European Council president also said the European Union is ready to support ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve tensions and the conflict between Iran and the United States.
This comes as Pezeshkian, in his address to the United Nations General Assembly, said Iran would not give up its right to develop nuclear technology.
