In a fire in a library building in Panjshir province, several thousand books were burnt.
Sources told Hasht-e Subh newspaper that the fire started at 8:30 am today (Friday, January 13) in Piawasht village in Rukha district and the fire has not been contained as of yet.
Sources detailed that the five-story library building has an estimated 4,000 books, and belongs to the former Justice Minister, Fazel Ahmad Manawi.
The Taliban had turned this library building into their military base in Rukha district.
Although the cause of this fire is not determined yet, local sources accused the Taliban of setting fire to this library. The Taliban prevented locals from extinguishing the fire, sources added.
Taliban members have not expressed their opinion in this regard.
Since rising to power in August 2021, by deploying thousands of fighters in Panjshir, the Taliban have turned dozens of residential houses, school buildings, religious schools and even health clinics into military bases.
