António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, said that fossil fuels are destroying planet Earth and holding economies hostage.
Guterres wrote on the X platform on Wednesday night, April 22, that renewable energy can provide true and lasting energy security, something he said fossil fuels are unable to deliver.
He emphasized that the world must move toward the widespread use of renewable energy to ensure climate stability, energy security, and a livable future for humanity.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations said that continued dependence on fossil fuels has serious consequences for the environment and the global economy, and the process of change must be accelerated.
Guterres has called on countries to make the “right choice” and create conditions for the development of clean and sustainable energy.
The Secretary-General had previously said on Earth Day that the world must end its dependence on fossil fuels and take urgent action to protect the environment.
