The Taliban announced that since 26 March, heavy rainfall, lightning, landslides, and floods have claimed the lives of 28 people across more than 20 provinces of Afghanistan.
Bakhtar News Agency, under Taliban control, reported on Monday, 30 March, that Hafiz Mohammad Yousuf Hamad, Head of Information and Publications and spokesperson for the Taliban’s Disaster Preparedness and Response Administration, stated that 49 others were injured as a result of these weather events.
He added that the incidents were recorded in the provinces of Kabul, Kapisa, Parwan, Panjshir, Bamyan, Daikundi, Paktia, Paktika, Logar, Zabul, Kandahar, Helmand, Herat, Ghor, Balkh, Badghis, Samangan, Sar-e Pol, Baghlan, Takhar, Jawzjan, Faryab, Badakhshan, Nangarhar, and Laghman.
According to the report, in these provinces, 130 homes were destroyed, while 438 homes and 10 shops were partially damaged.
Hamad said that the rainfall affected 1,130 families, destroyed 93 kilometers of roads, 2,901 jeribs of agricultural land, and 53 water networks and wells.
He also added that nearly 2,000 trees were damaged and 244 livestock were killed.
